As the “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” alum is “born and raised in West Philadelphia,” Will Smith Decided to make a surprise visit to his alma mater.
The school district of Philadelphia posted a video of it on its Instagram Academy Award WinnerThursday.
“Wow. Wow,” said Smith, as he walked through the halls of Overbrook High School.
While the “King Richard” star reminisced about his former school, the camera then showed him entering a room full of students cheering and clapping for Smith.
He started shaking hands with the students, as some jumped off the chairs, excited to see the Hollywood actor.
Smith took a selfie with some fans and showed a photo of himself looking at his yearbook.
The video caption read, “What an amazing surprise! Today, @willsmith took a surprise trip overbrook high school, More pictures and news to come! #phled.”
The text of the video posted read: “When Will Smith suddenly goes back to his alma mater…”
The district also posted photos on its Facebook page, showing the “I’m Legend” actor chatting with Superintendent Dr. Tony Watlington.
Smith also made a rare public appearance at the NBA’s Los Angeles Lakers conference last month, mentoring team members.
The Lakers’ social media account wrote on their Instagram caption, “Many thanks to Will Smith, who joined the team to discuss strengths through solidarity and to practice gratitude in times of great challenge. His upcoming excellent All themes in the film, Liberation.”
The 54-year-old actor had a stroke when he infamously slapped comedian Chris Rock for joking about his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith. 2022 Academy Awards in March.
