Sophie Turner has said goodbye to the Iron Throne, but is still vying for more power and influence. The “Game of Thrones” alumna will star in the upcoming crime drama “Zone.” Created by “Mrs. Wilson” writer Anna Simon, the ITV series follows the adventures of notorious British jewel thief Joan Hannington, per time limit.
Set in ’80s London, “Joan” sees Turner playing a young mother who strives for a better life for herself and her daughter after the disappearance of her violent, runaway husband. To this end, Joan slowly transforms herself into a professional diamond thief and criminal mastermind.
“I’m so excited to bring the fascinating life story of Joan Hannington to the screen in ‘Joan’,” Turner said. “She is one of the most infamous figures in London’s criminal underworld, earning her the nickname ‘The Godmother’.” She described Hannington as a woman “who goes between her thriving and daring career as a jewel thief, all the while trying to get her daughter back from social services” and “a mother in despair in crime. swept away into the exhilarating world.”
Based on “Joan” Hannington’s memoir, “I Am What I Am: The True Story of Britain’s Most Notorious Jewel Thief”, written by Simon. Filming in London will begin next year.
turner was last seen in Jennifer Kaytin Robinson’s “Do Revenge,” A dark comedy starring Maya Hawke and Camila Mendes as high schoolers who agree to take on each other’s threats. She also recently appeared in the HBO drama “The Staircase”.
