Netflix season one HeartstopperWhich premiered in April 2022, earned a lot love For the fictional couple Charlie and Nick. Based on Alice Osman’s graphic novels of the same name, the show stars Charlie and Nick as well as teenage characters such as Tara, Darcy, Elle and Tao. most of the main characters are Gay, Gaytransgender or Bisexual,

Great to see this positive representation! to be a show where most of the cast is LGBTQ+ is so important. In honor of October being LGBTQ+ History Month, a time to focus on the history of LGBTQ+ people as well as raise awareness and visibility, I wanted to give Heartstopper Shout out loud!

a holistic approach

While a lot of shows now feature LGBTQ+ characters, they are generally not the focus. we see something homophobia In HeartstopperBut we also see how the positivity outweighs the negativity. The show gives us a holistic view of what it’s like to be LGBTQ+ with, unfortunately, characters dealing with homophobia and/or transphobiaBut just like anyone engaged in happy relationships and friendships heterosexual and/or cisgender It is possible

ok to question

anything else Heartstopper A good job of portraying is when one is confused about oneself sexual orientation, For example, we see that Nick, who thinks he is heterosexual, develops feelings for Charlie. He begins researching about bisexuality and eventually identifies with bi, But Charlie never insists on Nick come out Unless he is ready to do so on his own terms.

Seeing a character question their sexual orientation makes the show more relatable to those who have no idea how they identify. Nick shows us that it’s okay not to know and figure out your sexual identity.

Heartstopper’s Beauty

This show will always hold a special place in my heart as there is one character who identifies just like me. But more importantly, it shines because it is a positive love story between two teenagers. The first time I watched, I cried during almost every episode, not because it was sad, but because I was and am So Glad the show highlights all the positivity in LGBTQ+ relationships.

Season two is now in production and I’m excited for it to come out! if you haven’t seen Heartstopper Still, I apologize for any spoilers and strongly urge you to watch this during LGBTQ+ History Month and any month!
