Liger Marked the Hindi debut of Telugu actor, Vijay Deverakonda. Helmed by Puri Jagannadh, the film starred Ananya Panday in the lead role with Ramya Krishnan in the lead. The film was a flop at the box office. A viral letter from Puri has surfaced online in which he talks about the distributors, the film’s failure and more.

Liger director Puri Jagannath wrote a letter after filing a complaint against Liger distributors: ‘If I had cheated anyone, it was the spectators’

In the letter, Puri wrote, ‘If it is successful then the money will come. If you fail, how much knowledge will come? Therefore, we always gain mentally and financially… there is nothing in this world that we can lose. That’s why we shouldn’t see everything as a failure. If bad happens, the bad people around us will disappear. Once we look back, we know who lives there. Isn’t that good?”

He said, “(People) will praise you, accuse you, put you behind bars, bail you out, clap and scold you. So, if these things don’t happen in your life, make sure they do. So there is a danger of not becoming a hero. That’s why we should live like a hero. If we want to live, we must be honest. There is no need to declare ourselves an honest person. There is no need to save the truth. Truth will protect the truth. Truth always protects itself.”

Puri further wrote, ‘If we work without deceiving others, no one will do anything. If I have cheated anyone, the audience trusts me and buys cinema tickets. I have not cheated anyone. Actually, I am accountable to my audience. I will do films and entertain them. Are you talking about money? Name at least one person who took at least one rupee on his death. Then I will also save (money). In the end we all meet in the graveyard and whatever happens in between is all drama.

Recently, an audio call of Puri Jagannath was leaked where he reprimanded the distributors Liger to blackmail him. He filed a complaint that the distributors blackmailed him and were trying to illegally extort money from him apart from blackmailing him. In the complaint, the director said that the distributors owe money to the sub-distributors. So, now they are mobilizing the sub-distributors and calling for a protest at Puri Jagannath’s residence to compensate for the loss.

In the audio call being circulated online, he said, “Are they blackmailing me? I don’t have anybody’s money, yet I am giving. There was a loss and with good will I have decided to come back. I have already spoken to the buyers and informed them that the agreed amount will be refunded in a month.

“Here (in the film industry) everyone is gambling. Some movies will be hits and some will be flops. I still haven’t got a lot of money from hits like Pokiri and Ishmart Shankar. Will the buyer’s union help me with this? If you want to protest, do it. I will take the list of those who protested and give money to those who did not protest,” Puri said.
