Former ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ star Patrick Dempsey makes witty quip about Ellen Pompeo exiting show

Dempsey, who played Dr. Derek “McDreamy” Shepherd, joked during an appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” as to why she was leaving.

“She’s leaving the show. I don’t know if you heard or not, she got caught stealing Band-Aids off the set,” the comedian commented in light of Pompeo’s decision.

“Did he really? In the end, they caught him,” Dempsey jokingly replied.

The 56-year-old actor also revealed that he gets better attention in the hospital after starring in the medical drama series.

The “Charmed” star additionally said that people have acknowledged that the show inspired her to pursue a career as a doctor.

“I’ve met people who have said it was because of the show,” he explained. “They’ve gone through medical school, and now they’re practicing. That’s how long the show’s been on. It’s the biggest thing on the show.”

Meanwhile, Pompeo expressed her gratitude to “Grey’s Anatomy” fans in an emotional goodbye note on Instagram on Thursday.

“I am forever grateful and humbled by the love and support you all have shown me, Meredith Grey, and the show for 19 seasons!” Pompeo posted a photo of herself in front of a neon sign that reads “All You Need Is Love.”

She continued, “Through it all… none of this… would have been possible without the best fans in the world. You are all riders and you all have made riding so fun and iconic!!”

She also assured fans that she won’t be a stranger at Gray Sloan Memorial.

“I love you madly and appreciate you immediately,” she said. “It’s not my first time on a rollercoaster… You know the show must go on and I’ll definitely be back to take the ride. With lots of love and immense gratitude XoE.”
