Ellen Pompeo has lost Grey’s Anatomy.
Maybe for the last time.
On Thursday afternoon, the veteran actress uploaded the following picture of herself and accompanied it with a message for all the fans of the beloved medical drama.
“I am forever grateful and humbled by the love and support you all have shown me, Meredith Grey, and the show for 19 seasons!” Wrote Star to open this caption.
She wrote it a week after the Grey’s Anatomy winter finale aired on ABC.
Immediately following the episode, fans were treated to Preview of what’s to come on the series – highlighted by several of Meredith’s co-workers saying goodbye to her before the character left for the East Coast.
Ahead of season 19, the network confirmed Pompeo will only appear in a total of 8 episodes This fall and winter.
The last two of those installments will air in February and early March.
“Through it all… none of this… would have been possible without the best fans in the world. You are all riders and you all made the ride so fun and iconic!!” Pompeo continued on social media.
He concluded thus:
I love you madly and appreciate you immediately. This isn’t your first time on a rollercoaster… you know the show must go on and I will definitely be back to take the ride.

Pompeo stepped back from the long-running show this season to pursue outside projects… including Hulu’s adaptation of the 2009 film Orphan, which follows the story of a harrowing adoption In which a couple’s new daughter becomes a grown woman as a child.
she made it clear several times in the past that she was Looking forward to Grey’s Anatomy ending,
But the higher-ups kept throwing millions of dollars at him!
Pompeo said in December 2021, “I think I’m the most naive who keeps saying, ‘But what’s the story going to be, what story are we going to tell? ‘”
“And everyone’s like, ‘Who cares, Ellen? It makes a billion dollars.'”
Meredith’s story appears to wrap up with the surgeon’s decision to leave Seattle for Boston, where she accepted a position with the Catherine Fox Foundation to research Alzheimer’s disease.
It’s worth noting that, unlike many other fictional doctors throughout Grey’s Anatomy’s history, Meredith was not killed off.
Her new job definitely leaves the door open for guest appearances.
Of course, ABC would need to renew Grey’s Anatomy for another season for that to happen.
