nets are suspended Kyrie Irving The NBA superstar repeatedly failed to apologize fully for promoting an anti-Semitic film with the organization for at least 5 games after the team was told. saying that he is “currently ineligible to be associated with the Brooklyn Nets.”
The team released a statement Thursday night announcing the move… a week after the 30-year-old, 7x NBA All-Star tweeted about a movie, “Hebrew to Negro: Wake Up Black America!”
The Nets said, “Over the past several days, we have made repeated efforts to work with Kyrie Irving to help her understand the harm and danger of her words and actions, which she started with promoting a film that she did. with which there is deep turbulent anti-hatred.”
“We believed that education would be the right way to go in this challenging situation and we thought we had made progress with our joint commitment to eradicating hatred and intolerance.”
The Anti-Defamation League states that “the film promotes beliefs generally found between anti-Semitic and extremist factions of the BHI movement.”
On Thursday he met with members of the media, and then refused to apologize directly.
“We were disappointed today, when given an opportunity in a media session, that Kyrie refused to explicitly state that he had any anti-Semitic beliefs, nor acknowledged the specific hateful material in the film. It was not the first time he had had the opportunity – but failed – to clarify.”
This morning’s media session was clearly the last straw for the franchise… which has been struggle on the courtToo.
“Such failure to disallow anti-Semitism when given a clear opportunity to do so is very disturbing, against the values of our organization, and constitutes conduct injurious to the team. Accordingly, our The idea is that he is currently ineligible to join the Brooklyn Nets.”
FYI, Brooklyn has one of the largest Jewish populations in the US.
The Nets continued … “We have determined that Kyrie will serve a suspension without pay until he completes a series of objective remedial measures addressing the detrimental effect of his conduct and the suspension period is five.” No less than a game.”
The Nets will play the Washington Wizards on Friday night. DC Irving will not be on the floor. If he serves a minimum suspension, he will be eligible to return against the Lakers in Los Angeles on November 13.
But, given Kyrie’s hesitation to say sorry, it’s a huge IF.
