Anupamaa, Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai maker Rajan Shahi on getting flak for on-going tracks; says, ‘Audience ka gussa saraankhon par’ [Exclusive]

Anupama is ruling Indian TV in a way no desi show has done in the last few years. Rupali Ganguly and Gaurav Khanna’s show is coming on all seven days of the week. BollywoodLife in conversation with Rajan Shahi behind the two trailblazing shows. He told us, “There is no formula to make a hit show. Had there been one, many of my other shows would have been hits too. You walk with instincts. I believe in honest storytelling. As a producer, I love stories. I feel emotionally attached to. We were trendsetters even with Bidaai. We brought back the concept of the girl next door.”

He tells us why Anupama is extra special, and it has nothing to do with Rupali Ganguly or Gaurav Khanna. He said that Anupama is loved not only in India but also abroad. This is his first collab with my mother Deepa Shahi. She became a budding producer at the age of 79. Anupama is produced by their joint production house Shahi Productions. The makers say, “It is the story of a mother, no matter which way you look at your mother.” He said that Anupama’s success has led to several shows on the journey of mothers and housewives. “We had opponents who asked us to do a young love story, not a middle-aged woman’s story,” he says.

Now that Anupama and YRKHH are there seven days a week, fans must be wondering at the pressure on the actors. Rajan Shahi debunks the myth that people are raising more slogans to give such output. He says, “As a producer I am saying very strongly through this platform that there can be constant grueling work hours with some production houses, but people are asked to ask the actors of Director’s Kut Productions for their experience. One must ask about. Shahi Productions as a company is very conscious. And transparent when it comes to rules and regulations. No actor can say that he has continuously shot for 18 hours or more in the last few years Of course, it requires a lot of planning. You need to be innovative with your content. We gave an hour to a month for Bidaai and it was a huge success. In fact, here Even YRKHH had a three-month stint, seven days a week, which was a success. The pressure doesn’t come when there is discipline and planning.”

Of course, both the shows have received some criticism on social media from time to time. While Anupama has been let down by some fans, Abhira and Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai have become meme material. Rajan Shahi reveals that he is audience conscious. They are what the shows are being made for. “What he likes and dislikes, I take it as love and concern for the show,” he says. These days, given the digital age, the reactions are coming in very fast.” Shahi says that he and his team have learned a lesson, though they ignore comments that are personal or downright offensive. He says, “The actor was upset about his separation from Abhira… Look at his love and his eyes. We take the audience’s reactions respectfully and seriously. Our writers and creators have been asked to tell people about a track. Respect what I’m saying,” he says. ,
